Going on hiatus…

I’ve been finding that there are too many competing priorities for my time these days, and this blog is suffering because of that. If I could write faster – both my fiction and blog posts – this wouldn’t be so much an issue. I started this blog ages ago thinking of it as a diary.…

an inspirational keynote, reading & writing…

“…remember the nature of what it is you signed on for. You’ve come here to make a difference…” LeVar Burton at the 2012 O’Reilly Tools of Change conference.  Kent A. at the Scholarly Kitchen posted a link to LeVar’s keynote address. It’s 15+ minutes long, but worth every word. That’s a great way to start…

history comes alive

Spotted this article via Research Buzz: Confederate letters: we had apirty lively Christmas. Two researchers hope to set up a database with letters they are transcribing. What a great resource this will be – primary source material from the soldiers on the front lines or from their loved ones. I’ve also been following wonderful, insightful…

it got quiet around here…

I’ve been sidetracked the last few weeks as I finished up the final edits on my novel and began thinking about web domains, the holidays, trips, weddings, copyediting, and work. My brain–and life-is going in a hundred different directions. All of them good, mind you. But I feel much less organized than in the ‘old’…

on the revision process…

Can I make those earliest chapters real page-turners like chapter 25, the climax that I took for critique at writers group a couple of weeks back? (The words ‘this scene will really knock people over’ sound so sweet. Talk about…

chapter 1 is calling my name…

…but I must resist! Just for a few more weeks. Let it stew, simmer. Wait until writers group hears the final 3 chapters. Their critiques might give me something else to consider before I trek down revision road. I’ve probably lost a bit of sleep thinking about the revisions yet to come. There will be…

stats & other work…

Let’s do a post about library work today!! I’ve been writing about my novel writing adventures recently. Fellow writer Mariewas kind enough to tweet my last entry to her 152 followers, which may have netted me a whole 14 views. (Okay, some of those may have been the dear souls who regularly read my blog.…

the final chapters…

Aspiring writers note: get thee to a writing group. Writing in isolation is like singing in the shower. There is no one there to tell you that you’re tone deaf. Well, unless you take communal showers…uh…let’s not go there. You’re alone. In the shower. Or…alone at the keyboard. My writers group will hear the climax…

is it done?

Well, no, of course not. My novel, that is. But…is it okay to put “THE END” on the very last page of the last chapter of my first draft? Holey moley, yes, I wrote the final chapter! Tuesday night, I’d just finished the 2nd to last chapter when I had one of those Eureka! moments.…
