ALA Midwinter – Seattle

I had plans to go to a number of ALCTS & LAMA sessions at Midwinter but the buyout of Endeavor changed my meetings plans. Maybe someone else will summarize the meetings of Tech Srvs Administrators of Medium-sized Research Libraries Discussion Group, the E-resources Interest Group, the Catalog Management Discussion Group, and the Creative Ideas in Technical Services. I also wanted to go to LAMA’s Middle Management Interest Group & RUSA-MARS Hot Topics: Not your Dad’s Interface!

We were on the verge of doing a data load for Meridian: we’d had training sessions, our systems/IT folks were extracting data from our homegrown ERM (lovingly referred to as our contract database, or conDB for short). We’d decided to use our SFX knowledgebase to do the initial load…

So, it was really important that I attend a number of Ex Libris sessions, especially those pertaining to Endeavor legacy systems. I’ve posted summaries of those meetings and others on the Libraries’ conference reports blog.

Overall – good conference. Lots of networking – I met a lot of frustrated Endeavor customers. We’re all in a holding pattern hoping that we’ll see the development of better ILS & ERMs that won’t cause us much pain when we migrate.
