ALA’s new website

ALA’s public face has a new look. It’s fairly easy on the eyes. (Personally, I like NASIG‘s better!) It looks intuitive. The URLs are much shorter. Some pages load slowly, and that’s on my T1 line at work! Categories seem reasonable (divisions, offices, etc. across the top; about, awards, education, etc., on the sidebar – at least on the homepage – the sidebar changes depending on where you are on the site). Of course, I managed to miss the category I needed on my first visit and ended up using the search box. That worked fairly well, though I was surprised my search for “library schools” came up near the bottom of the first page of search results and it still wasn’t what I wanted. I had to get to the actual page of ALA-accredited programs in a roundabout way. Ah, the joys of internet searching…
