Got to meet Ceri, another virtual friend – one of the first people I got to know on livejournal through our writing obsessions. Ceri was doing the NaNoWriMo (write 50,000 word novel in one month) and had me reading & cheering her on in Nov. of 2008. She lives in Chester in north Wales and drove 50 minutes to meet me & Joel in Liverpool. We’d taken the train up from London on Tuesday, about a 2 hour trip.
Ceri is a huge Beatles (especially John Lennon) fan so it was great to let her show us a bit of their hometown, and see Beatles history at the museums and the place where it all started there.
Of course we learned that the original Cavern Club had been demolished! It’s been re-created a few doors down from its original location on Matthew Street. It’s supposedly just like the original – low ceilings, brick walls, bricked archways dividing different parts of the room – must have been packed pretty tight with people back in the early days of the Beatles and other groups that performed there. The new place has amazing acoustics – a Lennon impersonator was performing when we arrived. He sounded pretty darn good. Between him and the ongoing music at the museums, we were in Beatles heaven. Great to hear Beatles songs for hours on end. The Beatles Experience museum had a lot more than Beatles – it was more a histoy of the era. I actually enjoyed the White Feather exhibition/museum more – it was put together by Cynthia and Julian Lennon. It felt more intimate, more personal.
